Indeed, the landscape of hybrid and electric motorcycles seems much more advanced today. They are faster, lighter, safer, and smarter. But without forgetting that touch of style and elegance . And let's not forget the maintenance advantages: there will no longer be any need to change the oil or repair a leaking seal.
The only advice we can give to future "electric" drivers is this:
- Perform regular inspection and maintenance, at least every 2000 mi (3000 km) or every six months.
- Charge your lithium-ion batteries correctly, otherwise their lifespan will be reduced.
- Do not use chargers from other manufacturers
- Do not allow the battery to discharge completely, as this will reduce its lifespan.
- Do not expose your motorcycle battery to extreme conditions; the ideal temperature is between 0 and 35 °C (32 and 95 °F).
- Clean your electric motorcycle regularly to remove mud and dirt.
- Regularly lubricate the chain of your electric motorcycle or scooter if they are designed with chains.
Harley-Davidson LiveWire
The first electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire features a Revelation permanent magnet motor capable of instantly producing maximum rated torque. It offers seven selectable riding modes, each with a specific combination of power settings, regenerative braking, throttle response, and traction control. The battery provides a minimum range of 235 km in the city.
BMW R 1200 GS xDrive Hybrid
BMW Motorrad launches the R 1200 GS xDrive Hybrid, the Munich-based manufacturer's first all-wheel-drive hybrid motorcycle, destined to perpetuate the legacy of the iconic R 1200 GS Adventure. Powered by a 125 hp twin-cylinder engine with 125 Nm of torque, it boasts a total system output of 170 hp, of which a good 45 hp are supplied by the electric motor.
Zero SR/F
The Zero SR/F is an electric motorcycle with impressive specifications. Aiming to establish itself as the world leader in electric motorcycles, Zero has invested heavily, and this motorcycle is proof of that. Powered by a 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and a very compact motor, the Zero SR/F offers optimal power and a highly competitive range.
…and the Japanese manufacturers?
Kawasaki's future plans include a new motorcycle featuring hybrid technology, which will soon enter production. The Japanese manufacturer aims to launch 10 electrified models (hybrid or fully electric) by 2025, and to have a full lineup of fully electrified motorcycles by 2035.
For now, Kawasaki is putting forward plans for a hybrid model, called Endeavour, with a parallel twin-cylinder engine and an electric motor that can run alternately on electricity and gasoline.
While the other three Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki, have been decidedly cautious about upcoming electrified motorcycle models, Kawasaki has been decidedly more proactive.
